500 Years diplomatic relation with Thailand

Set of stamps
First Day Cover with set of stamps

The time of the Caravelas finishes with the packing of the Bojador handle, in 1487. The domain of the winds and chains of the Atlantic, that allowed such fact, would make possible more remote trips and would justify the choice of the more apt Vessel as to affect the route of the Handle.

1511-2011, five centuries of uninterrupted relationship between the oldest and the only Western nation state-the South-east Asia never colonized. Exceeding the mere business contacts, relations between Portugal and Thailand provide a unique case in the annals of history of international relations, assuming the dimensions diplomatic, political, military, religious, cultural and sociological. These relations have always been from the beginning, relations of state-to-state relations between equals parity. In Ayutthaya, the ancient capital where there was a Portuguese neighborhood with its churches and Luso-Thai mixed population, generations of pilots, soldiers, interpreters and doctors loyally served the Kings Siamese. There, where Portuguese was the lingua franca of communication between the sixteenth and eighteenth centuries, the Portuguese introduced the technology and art of military construction, as well as the European pharmacopoeia and medicine. Closely related to the Asian possessions of the Portuguese Crown, the major embassies Zion received from Malacca, Macau and Goa and the relations between the two countries remained unchanged, even in hard times of the liberation war led by King Taksin - whose guard was composed of Portuguese - and Rama I, which received important military aid that the Queen Dona Maria I of Portugal sent him in 1796. In 1820, Siam and Portugal signed the first treatise written in the modern era, which was consecrated by the full integration of Siam in the international community. In the period of major reforms of the nineteenth and early twentieth century, Rama Rama V and VI, many of Macau from Portuguese established themselves as advisers in Bangkok of the Siamese Government. Unlike other foreigners, were made and received Siamese Thai citizenship. The history of the old covenant is eloquent pioneering example of dialogue between civilizations.

Traditional Portuguese Embroidery

Souvenir sheet 'Camisa de Noivo', Guimarães
Souvenir sheet Saco (taleigo) bordado a ponto de cruz, Glória do Ribatejo

In our traditional society, the embroidery was, and is a female activity.
From an early age, girls learn, within the contact with older women of the family, the first points. In this "school", the only that, many times, had access, was also initiated in other knowledge and secrets of life slowly unravelling came.
homely feel this in the long winter nights spent around the fireplace, rehearsing points are simpler and more complex, which were stored in small strips of cloth, known as Maps or showcases. These examples serve as a reference to a day later be played back on clothing and layette.
From north to south and the islands they wrote themselves, very original, true declarations of love, in love scarves. Marriageable girls to great pains in its composition, embroidering a set of reasons for loving great symbolism (hearts, birds, doves, albarradas, brambles etc..) Stressed that with verses. Once ready, the handkerchief was given to the spoken, which should use the festivities as a sign of commitment. Also the shirt of Guimarães, the groom wore on their wedding day, was lovingly embroidered by his fiancee.
embroidering was sent that message, as shown in the phrase that adorns the bag Glória do Ribatejo.
Among the works that the most beautiful brides performed, include the Quilt Engagement of Castelo Branco. Embroidered on natural linen color, with coloured silk threads loose, show, in its composition, a strong Eastern influence.
Further south, arriving Arraiolos rugs that there are ancient and unknown origin. Also in these parts, the Eastern influence is present in the composition and choice of decorative elements - animals, flowers, albarradas - executed with polychrome wool yarn at the point of Arraiolos.
Across the sea, Madeira, to admire the embroidery most of us have internalized and which hold greater economic value. Released from the mid-nineteenth century, these works are for women's clothing and household linen to a clientèle eager and appreciative of refinement. Today, like yesterday, is almost always choose the white fabrics, filled with elaborate compositions performed with the same colour lines.
In the Azores highlight because it is less known, the Straw Embroidery, where small decorative motifs are executed with straw and chipped wires pita (aloe) on tulle, creating a huge light parts.
Today, the Embroidery identified as belonging to different regions of our country has specific characteristics that allow us to identify its origin. The result of a long evolution site, where various influences met and reinvented, embroidery is a product whose value exceeds the cultural significance of each piece.

Series "Europe" Forest

The United Nations declared 2011 the International Year of Forests. In all 48 member countries of the European organization "PostEurop" Therefore, a European trademark on "forest" is published.

The biological, ecological and climatic role of forests for life on earth is of inestimable value. The loss of forests means the loss of biological diversity and climate change.

Since time immemorial, people also use the forests. The clearing of forests for non-simultaneous afforestation have been hurt earlier cultures such that they are no longer existent. But the man apparently has not learned much from it: the reckless deforestation in tropical rain forest, the rigorous cases of ancient trees and not quickly replaceable have already led to significant changes in the flora, fauna and climate. Why is the preservation, reforestation of forests to one of the biggest global challenges? Also, the preservation of the environment is of paramount importance to the trees: Trees can only grow there, where it is in the course of a year long period over 5° C, otherwise the production of wood pulp, the lignin synthesis no longer work.

Even in Germany, the forest has shrunk enormously. It only remained about a third of the area is covered with forest. The forest to protect and reforest the world means to begin their own front door, in their own country.

Tagetes
The definitive series of stamps "Flowers"

In this country decorating marigold (Tagetes hybrids) in sulfur-yellow, orange or golden brown colours fill the flower beds in gardens, parks and traffic islands. The genus Tagetes includes about 50 species and countless varieties and belongs to the Aster family. The wild species of Tagetes colonize sunny and dry slopes of Mexico and Texas to Argentina. Only one species occurs in Africa. For the gardener Tagetes two properties are important: the plants are easy to cultivate, and their flowering period extends from May until the first frost, so about six months. In the U.S., and recently also with us, the anise-tasting Tagetes lucida is used "as a culinary herb" tarragon to flavour.
