LATVIA – Cover from Riga, Latvia to Braga, Portugal

On the occasion of the Riga historical monetary unit - the 800th anniversary pfennig Latvian Post issued the stamp, which depicts the pfennig, and its place of manufacture - in Riga city.


Artist Valda Batrakas made ​​postage Riga pfennig - 800 par value of LVL 0.98 (equivalent to the cost of sending a registered letter within Latvian), and a print run of 100,000 copies.

Together with the new postage stamps issued in the first day of a special envelope and stamp. The envelope, as well as postage stamps, depicts pfennigs and its place of manufacture - in Riga city. While the special stamp shows the founder of Bishop Albert of Riga with a wet head, right arm - cross over the ball, left hand - the bishop wand.

1211.gadā Bishop of Riga Albert Gotland merchants were granted the privilege of minted coins in the Riga diocese. To celebrate the historic anniversary, the Latvian Post allows anyone to buy postage stamps with images of ancient money, while the Latvian National History Museum from 26 May be seen in the ancient monetary unit - pfennigs and silver rods or ozeriņi.
